Thanks to all who listened to Thursday’s track and to those who ventured a guess. A bunch of you liked the track and the trumpet player but no one guessed who it was, so the winner of the twelfth of the Outside Pants Guess The Trumpet Player contest is…….no one. And that’s…ok. How many people are really up to date on the latest Lebanese trumpet scene?
The correct answer is Ibrahim Maalouf. The tune is called “Ya Ha La” and it’s from Maalouf’s second and most recent album “Diachronism.” The album is awesome. If you enjoyed this track at all, I’d highly recommend either of Maalouf’s albums. He is a ridiculously good trumpet player, fluent in many styles. His vocal style knocks me out. It sounds like he is blowing through his trumpet like a flute player. His playing sounds effortless which is both inspiring and maybe a little irritating :) He’s only 30 years old so hopefully we’ll get to hear many more albums from Ibrahim Maalouf.

PS – notice anything “different” about Maalouf’s trumpet??
