was just listening to this yesterday gettin ready to see brass ecstasy at the vanguard this friday!
Yeah Dave - you got it! Isn't that an awesome record?? Have fun seeing Dave tomorrow. Today is his birthday, you know. BTW - please let me know if Brass Ecstasy plays Lush Life, OK?
ReplyDeleteOh and Dave - pick your CD prize and Facebook me your address so I can send it to you.
ReplyDeleteThey did play Lush Life! It's a great arrangement. Basically (going off a memory of one listen) he broke it into sections, connected non-linearly, and looped each section with a different member of the ensemble soloing based on snips of melodic material from that section.
ReplyDeleteAt least that's what I think was going on ... can't wait to hear it on record some day!
Sweet, Dave - cool to hear that they played Lush Life. Sounds like the arrangement was pretty unique too. I hope he does record it.
ReplyDeleteYour prize is coming soon, dude! Thanks again for playing!
